THIS IS ROLLER DERBY is a colourful and action packed documentary examining the cultural phenomenon of modern roller derby; a full contact sport played by women on roller skates. From its roots in Austin, Texas, it has become the fastest growing women’s sport in the world.
Nowhere is this more evident than in Australia - not only for its dynamic appeal but also its sub-cultural influences and community spirit.

Filmed over 12 months, the film chronicles the Australian roller derby scene, where and how it all began and follows the journey’s of various and very different Aussie leagues over the course of the 2009 year including Ballarat, Adelaide, Canberra and Geelong.
The story also takes us to Austin, Texas where modern day roller derby as we now know it was resurrected in 2001 and explores the common themes and relationships between the Australian and Austin leagues.

The film is currently in post production with a release date around December 2010.
